RE: Picture posting thread...anyone into it?

Was out filling deer feeders on the ranch today and had a camera in the truck, so decided to shoot a couple of pics of two old homes and a schoolhouse on our place. My grandfather and his brother bought all the land for ranching in 1938. He told me the schoolhouse was used up until the early 1930's. About a mile away, the old stone home he said belonged to the country doctor and his family. The other old home, I can't remember it's story. RE: FDIC ???????

I wouldn't know for sure, but I figure if several banks start failing, FDIC would quickly bankrupt itself before all insured accounts are paid off, would this be a fair statement ?

RE: Give me your opinions on liability

Thanks to all my friends here for your help, thoughts and prayers. Moderator: There was no intent in my making this an inappropriate thread against the forum rules. I did not mention that I was going to be suing anyone, infact I stated I was opposed to this. I posted simply to get opinions of my respected friends I have made on the forum who's advice I hold in high esteem. If the future holds something different, that will be an issue for me to deal with privately at that time. I wanted to throw this out for open discussion for anyone who may have advice on the issue, or even a possibility of an alternative medical treatment that one may have insight on which I might not be aware of in lieu of his having a surgerical proceedure performed at such a young age. Thank you.

Give me your opinions on liability

Hey to all my old friends. I've not been on here for awhile due to some personal reasons, however I am stopping in to say hello to all and to ask for your valued opinions. To begin with, let me clarify that I am not one of those who just wait to jump at the opportunity to file a lawsuit, but here is my situation and concern. When there were two weeks left in my son's 7th grade school year, he is 13 years old, he came home from school complaining of his back hurting. In questioning him, he stated he had been following the athletic coaches instructions in weight lifting that morning in class. He said the coaches estimated his lifting ability to be 165lbs and set this up for him on a bar. He was doing what was called dead lifting. I figured he had pulled a muscle and we applied heat and some tylenol. Three days later, he was no better and said the pain had moved down into both legs, so I opted to him in to his pediatrician, who also felt it was muscle strain and prescribed muscle relaxers and pain meds. The following week was finals at school and he was still hurting in his legs. He did not want to go back to the doctor until he was finished with his tests, then on the day before school was out, he was in tears getting out of bed. I loaded him up and we took a trip to the hospital ER. The ER docs felt something more was going on and ordered an MRI. I got a call the next day after the ER and was told I had an appointment set up with a neurosurgeon who would go over the MRI results with me. Took him in to this appointment and was told (and shown) the MRI pics. He has a double herniated disc between L-5 and S-1. The neuro doc said it was bad news to see this type injury and surgery was going to be his last option to perform on a 13 year old. He wanted to do a steroid injection in his back and some extensive physical therapy to see if this could help. We start PT tomorrow. He prescribed him 5/325mg lortab for his pain. I can see his pain has subsided just slightly, but he still can't sit or walk without it becoming very painful. My question to you all is this: Should the school be considered somewhat responsible and liable for this happening due to it happening at school and under the supervision of a coach who should have used better judgment in allowing a 90lb kid to try and lift almost double his weight? Thanks to all for your honest replies. Rick

RE: Oh well.......

OK, somebody said I would be back, only because I keep getting notifications to this thread, so thought I would explain. I have no idea what the Walmart thread was about as I missed it, (though I can only imagine...) Anyhow, someone did post a thread regarding the Walmart thread. It was a very reasonably asked question and was a non-inflamatory thread. I was the second poster on that one, and simply stated what a fun place this forum used to be until recently, to be able to spend time along with meeting and gaining new friends in the process. That thread was immediately deleted just after I posted. I do realize that the moderators of this forum have a job to do and most do it very well and I commend them for their time and service. One does however harbor personal agendas where certain topics or posters will never have a chance to speak what may be important to them. Yes, some posters do look for a fight with derogatory comments or threads and those need to be handled, however it is just my opinion that one carries the job too far over the line. There are other forums I am a member of but do not frequent because I believe the moderators do not do their jobs and I do not agree with that and as my choice, do not participate with them any longer. There are a couple of other forums that I now enjoy because a wide variety of topics are left open for discussion between members wanting to talk about them. This is what I enjoy from a forum and it is those that I will be spending my time with. Thanks to all the friends I have made here over the years and I do know I will pop in from time to time to read, but most likely will spend my time elsewhere. Rick

RE: Career ideas for special needs people?

I went to a funeral not long ago. The home employed a little guy about 25 years old with downs syndrome. I was impressed with how serious he took his job of keeping refreshments available for visitation as well as it being his job to arrange the flower displays for the service. After the service, it was his job to load them into the vehicle going to the cemetary. The funeral director said he had worked for them about 3 years and had never missed a day nor was ever late for his job which he took very seriously. Left me with a good feeling.....

Those flourescent energy efficient light bulbs

Saw a story on TV last night about the energy efficient little curly-que flourescent light bulbs that they are pushing to replace the incandescent bulbs. A lady was being interviewed who had broken one in her home and found out they have mercury inside them. A hazmat team charged her $2000 to rid her home of the mercury contamination caused by breaking this bulb. Anybody know any more about this? Seems like a high dollar way of pushing these bulbs and then having to develop crews to clean up the mess and find ways for landfills to dispose of them.....
